MINIMALLY INVASIVE AESTHETIC PROCEDURES
Botulin toxin A (Botox, Dysport, Azzalure) has been used in medicine for many years in treatment of some neurological diseases. The substance was used with growing success in correction of wrinkles on the face from late eighties. Its mechanism of action is transient blocking of neuro-muscular junction resulting in paralysis of muscles causing wrinkles. In consequence they became flattened or completely eliminated.

Areas where Botulin toxin A is most frequently used for rejuvenation purposes are:

  • lateral angle of the eye (crow's feet),
  • forehead with glabella,
  • neck,
  • oral rim.

New application of  Botulin toxin A  include treatment of hyperhidrosis (i.e. excessive sweating) of hands and armpits as well as relief of migraine headaches.

On patient's request anesthetic cream is applied 20 min before procedure.

Application of Botulin toxin A into the muscle is performed with few fine needle injections what usually takes no longer than 5 min. Then, cooling compresses are applied for 15-20min to decrease oozing and edema. Thereafter, patient may go home and return to normal activities. It takes 1-2 weeks for aesthetic result to appear. At this time treatment is reevaluated and additional units of Botulin toxin A my be injected if required.

Results of the therapy last from 6-12 months. After this period new dozes of Botulin toxin A may be injected.

The therapy may not be  effective in correction of deep wrinkles. In these cases combination of Botulin toxin injection with fillers, fat grafting or surgical procedures are recommended.

Botulin toxin injection rejuvenates temporally treated area but doesn’t stop natural aging processes.
